Declare Wada Winner or Order Fresh Election, Group Tells INEC

Following the lacuna created by the demise of Prince Abubakar Audu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in November 21 Kogi State governorship election, a group North Central Peoples Vanguard (NCPV), has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to either declare the incumbent governor, Capt. Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner or conduct fresh election.

Shortly after INEC declared the election as inconclusive, Audu passed on. His death thus created political logjam in the state as such occurrence has not happened in the political history of the nation.

INEC had fixed December 5 for supplementary election in 91 wards. But the group noted that if there is a race and the first person falls, the person in the second position automatically claims the first position.

It said since Audu who was leading the race fell to the cold hands of death, Wada should be declared the winner.

In a statement by NCPV spokesperson, Olatunji Aiyejagbara, the group equally urged the Supreme Court to wade in and give correct interpretation of the lacuna created in Kogi State as a result of Audu’s sudden death.

NCPV said the appellate court’s pronouncement on the political logjam in the state would in no small measure address such situation properly in the future.
