Fowler: FIRS will Generate N4.5tn Revenue in 2016
Group petitions Senate over AGF
Omololu Ogunmade disclosing the proposed N8 trillion budget for 2016 is doable.”
He added: “If oil can generate N1 trillion, the Customs and us can generate N4.5 trillion. So, the budget of N8 trillion is quite doable. Our projection of N4.5 trillion does not include an increase in VAT. This is because we are of the view that tax should be fair.”
Also yesterday, the Anti-corruption Network petitioned the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions against the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF), where it alleged that the OAGF failed in its sacrosanct duty to Nigeria to prosecute Chairman of Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Mr. Danladi Umar.
The letter reads in part: “We have become aware that the office of the AttorneyGeneral has failed in this sacrosanct duty to Nigeria in one practical case and would like the office to explain why on June 24, 2014, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) wrote an ‘investigation Report’ to the Attorney-General of the Federation (Ref No: EFCC/EC/JUS?07?117). The report was about evidence of criminal allegations against two suspects namely-Hon. Justice Danladi Umar and Ali Gambo Abdulahi.
“The Attorney-General then instructed the Chairman of EFCC by endorsing on the same letter, to proceed to prosecute the suspect. This was communicated in writing to chairman of EFCC with reference HAGF/EFCC/2014/ Vol./ 19 dated 26 June 2014.
“However, only the second suspect, Ali Gambo, is being prosecuted. The very first suspect who is the main suspect, Mr. Danladi has been left unprosecuted. This is a breach of the order of AGF. Since then, the office of the Attorney General has been silent on this failure to prosecute as directed.”
But Senator Kabir Marafa (Zamfara Central) criticised the petition, saying the Senate as an interested party in the matter could not probe Umar because it would not be fair to him.
