Bamidele: Buhari’s Victory Symbolic

-

the party’s victory in the presidential polls to the strong character and integrity of the person of the party’s presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari.

He said Buhari’s popularity contributed immensely to the victory of his party in the last Saturday’s election.

Mohammed, who spoke with journalists at the party’s national secretariat, Abuja, while the final results of the presidential election were still being collated by the Chief Returning Officer and Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commussion (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, said if Buhari had not been the APC candidate, the party would have lost the election.

“We would have lost woefully. Buhari made our victory very easy. He is a major factor in the landmark victory. It has never happened that an incumbent is defeated in a national election.”

“Buhari’s strong personality, character and integrity, his anti-corruption stance for which he has been known for so many years now, helped to make this victory easier for us,” Mohammed said.

He also said that providence played a major role in the party’ electoral success over the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“There was a lot of providence in what happened, like in the choice of the name of the party, APC, the merger itself, the card reader which was not our idea but that of the federal government which adopted it first.”

According to the APC spokesman, President Goodluck Jonathan chances were ruined by those who were with him. “If Jonathan came from the APC, he would have remained in power for a very long time. His greatest problem was in those who lined himself around him. The people who surrounded him saw him as meal ticket. They milked him dry”.

He said the people made him to waste a lot of money bribing all manner of people because they too benefited immensely from what was being dished out. On the fate of the PDP, he said the party would sink further to become a regional party if it does not put its acts together.

“PDP will soon become a regional party judging from its performance in this presidential election. While Buhari’s victory cut across four zones in the country Jonathan won majorly in the South-south and South-east zones. From this, you can take it that the PDP is already shrinking into a regional party,” he said. A member of House of Representatives, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, has described the victory of Major-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, in the presidential poll as a watershed in the history of the country.

Bamidele, who congratulated Buhari and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for pioneering a new direction for the political movement of the country, said the sacrifices made by the opposition political parties in the last 16 years have been crowned with success.

The Labour Party chieftain, who worked for Buhari in Ekiti State appealed to all Nigerians to give the incoming government the deserved supports to move Nigeria forward as a nation.

Bamidele in a statement by his media aide, Ahmed Salami specifically praised Buhari’s steadfastness to engage in fierce electoral competition despite losing the presidential poll three times in the past, commended the former Lagos state Governor, Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Chief Rochas Okorocha, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, Chief Bisi Akande and other leaders for mooting and successfully consummated the merger that brought about this historical political feat.

Bamidele stated the victory would expand the frontiers of the country’s democracy and confirm solidly that power belong to the people.

The federal lawmaker appealed to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to display uncommon patriotism and join hands with the incoming government to launch the fortunes of the nation to an enviable height of democratic governance party which will hold at the Oba Ovoranmwen Square, Benin City starting from 3.p.m. today, April 1.

Top artistes, including Davido, Patoranking, Osayomore Joseph, Young Bolivia, among others, will perform at the party to celebrate Buhari’s victory.
