Yvonne Bassey’s Happy Smiles
The 2015 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards will not be forgotten in a hurry for Yvonne Bassey. The former Channels TV Travel reporter clinched the coveted award for the Best Documentary for her programme, “Through The Eyes of an African.”
The vibrant lady is all ecstatic about her win that she is yet to get over the heady feeling of being an AMVCA winner. At times, she feels she is dreaming and have to pinch herself to be sure that indeed it is a reality. Each time she opens her eyes and sees the magnificent award perched on her table, she realises that indeed, it is a beautiful dream of hers that has come true.
Bassey started out in Channels TV as a tourism reporter. She anchored the documentary “Travel Guide” before moving on to her own independent programme “Through the eyes of an African.” The documentary features the intriguing cultures in the continent. From Ethiopia, Morocco to the beautiful island of Seychelles, Yvonne tells the enchanting and intriguing story of Africa to her audience in her brilliant animated demeanour.
However, this beautiful dream of hers would not have seen the light of the day without the help of the governor of Delta State, Emmanuel Uduaghan. It was the governor who provided the financial support for Bassey’s programme to be on the DSTV platform. For this, Bassey is ever grateful.
The CrossRiver indigene lives and breathes tourism. She is so passionate about the African culture that even for one who spent her early stages in life in Europe, Bassey firmly embraces the African culture over the Western. Bassey is very fluent in English and possesses a unique dramatic flair. Perhaps, she would have made a good actress but as fate would have it, she is a celebrated journalist today. Bassey is a graduate of English Studies from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Conservative Fashion Designer, Austin Aimankhu is not new in the fashion industry. Those who knew him back in the days probably knew him as the manager of the renowned fashion designer, Kese Jabari. But Aimankhu has graduated from that status to being a fashion icon in his own rights.
With experience spanning over a decade, Aimankhu has turned the runway from being a catwalk of models to a celebration of arts and fashion. His debut fashion show last year “Fashion Arts Fusion” was an impeccable blend of fashion, spoken word and music.
A lawyer by profession, the Edo State indigene is passionate about arts and fashion. Known for his signature style: Appliqué Couture, Aimankhu is revolutionising the men’s wardrobe with his artistic mind. Understanding the limited choices in men’s wear, Aimankhu’s Couture transforms everyday wears to a sophisticated trend in men’s fashion. His creative mind is always spinning something different and afrocentric for the fashionable man.
In this vein, his upcoming fashion show will parade fashion in a new dimension and promote arts. For this year’s edition, Aimankhu will transform the runway to a triplicate of symposium, fashion and concert.
