Makinde commissions Family Court, govt donates dialysis machine to UCH

OYO State Governor Seyi Makinde, yesterday, commissioned the Family Court of Oyo State.

Makinde said that the development would assist the Executive, Judiciary and Legislature to address internal and external crises affecting families in recent times, such as rape, sexual abuse, violence against children, among others.

In his speech, the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Munta Abimbola, stated that the Family Court would begin sitting on July 13, 2020, adding that anyone caught having an immoral relationship with a girl below 18 years or anyone who commits the offence of rape is liable on conviction to life imprisonment.

Also speaking at the event, the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, said the Oyo Ninth Assembly is currently working on four bills to protect children and women and with the establishment of the Family Court, incidents of rape, domestic violence and child- labour would be things of the past.

The state’s Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo, said that by the provisions of the Family Court, family feuds will be settled, child’s rights will be enforced and other issues that directly have an impact on families and children will be resolved.

In another development, Oyo State Government has donated one new dialysis machine to the University College Hospital ( UCH), Ibadan, towards ensuring proper examination and treatment of COVID- 19 patients in the hospital. It also assured the management of the hospital of mutual working relationship and more interventions within the shortest possible time to further take care of COVID- 19 cases in the state.

Ayoola Adebisi, while presenting the machine, said that the donation was part of the consignments set aside by the state government to support the hospital in taking care of COVID- 19 patients. Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, UCH, Dr. Victor Akinmoladun, who received the dialysis machine on behalf of the hospital, said the machine would add value to coronavirus treatment procedures in the college.

He said that the dialysis machine would be committed totally to the care of those who require dialysis and tested positive for COVID- 19.
