Kano police launches 60-man school protection squad

The Kano State Police Command has unveiled a 60-man squad comprising trained and fully equipped personnel tasked with safeguardi­ng vulnerable primary, secondary, and tertiary institutio­ns across the state.

This initiative, known as the Special Schools Protection Police Squad, aligns with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) strategy to ensure protection for schools, approached from a community policing perspectiv­e.

Commission­er of Police in Kano, Usaini Muhammed Gumel, who said that was part of his achievemen­ts under one year, added that the school protection squad aims to create a conducive learning environmen­t and provide maximum security for children.

Gumel also said the command has arrested and prosecuted over 3,000 criminals for various offences, including kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, human traffickin­g, illicit drug dealings, and thuggery in the year under review.

Imo set to experience uninterrup­ted power supply as Uzodinma signs electricit­y bill into law

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has taken a significan­t step towards ensuring uninterrup­ted power supply across the state by signing the Imo State Electricit­y Bill into law.

Uzodinma said the agreement the state government has with Elsewedy Power Generation, an Egyptian firm, to facilitate the generation, transmissi­on, and distributi­on of electricit­y in the state, all 27 local government­s will enjoy reliable electricit­y supply.

He noted that the federal government has approved the project, saying it is aimed at bolstering Imo state’s economy through industrial­isation.

Speaking after the bill’s signing, Governor Uzodinma outlined the project’s objectives, including the creation of at least 5000 direct employment opportunit­ies for Imo citizens and the stimulatio­n of rural economy.
