Airports record 3.4m passengers in Q1 - FAAN

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has said about 3.4 million passengers travelled through airports during the first quarter of this year which is above the 2.6m recorded in same period of 2017.

FAAN’s First Quarter Report obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday, in Abuja showed a 28.25 per cent growth from 2017.

The report indicated that 2.4m passengers travelled within the country (domestic passengers), while 950,292 passengers traveled out of and into Nigeria (internatio­nal passengers).

It also said 1.6m passengers were recorded at arrivals while 1.7m passengers were recorded at the departures. The monthly breakdown showed that 1.1m passengers comprising 800,609 domestic and 355,176 internatio­nal passengers were recorded in January.

In February, there were 1.05m passengers comprising 790,196 domestic and 267, 222 internatio­nal passengers while 1.2m passengers comprising 892,087 domestic and 327,894 internatio­nal passengers were recorded in March.

Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos recorded the highest frequency with 1.5m passengers: 890,716 domestic and 678,839 internatio­nal.

Nnamdi Azikiwe Internatio­nal Airport recorded 1.02m. The domestic travellers were 22,109 and internatio­nal were 199,875.

There were 55,031 aircraft movements compared to 44,997 aircraft movements recorded in Q1 of 2017, showing a 22.31 per cent growth. Out of this, 44,250 aircraft movements were recorded on the domestic route while 10,781 aircraft movements were recorded on the internatio­nal route.
