Oshiomhole’s endorsement childish – Oyegun

- By Muideen Olaniyi

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has described the purported endorsement of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole by the South-South zonal leadership of the party as “absolutely childish.”

Oshiomhole was said to have been adopted as the South South zone’s candidate for the party’s national chairman position at a caucus meeting in Edo State on Monday, where four state party chairmen were reported to have stormed out in protest against the action.

Chief Odigie-Oyegun who fielded question from few journalists at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, yesterday, said voting would take place at convention venue and not at any government house.

When asked to comment on the endorsement of Oshiomhole, he said, “It is childish, absolutely childish. The voting is done at the convention and not in state houses, not in government houses.”

On whether he would seek re-election, the APC National Chairman said, “I’m going to know when the convention committee announces their programmes, then when I’m going to buy a form if I will recontest I will let you know.”

Asked to say whether he was still consulting on the ambition, he said, “The consultation I think is concluded.”

Chief Odigie-Oyegun, who spoke on his rejection by the Edo State chapter of the APC, said “They have their reasons for what they did and you have to respect their own reasons, however wrong it is. Don’t bother about this teaser; I will give a comprehensive interview, to speak with you people when the time comes.”

Asked to know whether he was bothered about the level of opposition against him from his state, he said, “No, it doesn’t because one of those who wants my job is from Edo and he was the immediate past governor and he was very instrumental in installing the present governor. So, I think it is a case of rub my back I rub your back that is playing out.”
