Women group condemns slavery, violence against women
A women international group, Zonta Club,has condemned the recent trend of human trafficking, violence, abuse, maltreatment against women and even girl child throughout the world.
The group urged government at all levels to begin creating awareness on the negative effects of human trafficking.
Zonta Club stated this during a press conference addressed by the members of the club at their Jericho club house, Ibadan, during the weekend.
The President of Zonta Club Ibadan I, Mrs Peju Nwuga, President Zonta Club Ibadan II, Dr Iyabo Bassir, former president of the club, Mrs Stella Olufinmilayo Ladipo and the assistant secretary of the club, Mrs Olufunke Ogunshola, condemned violence against women.
The Zonta team expressed their displeasure that slavey was rearing its head in modern day form such as trafficking, saying this was a bad omen for the human race.
They said their position was also that of Zontians worldwide who are all saying no to gender-based violence on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
The campaign, according to Nwuga, is a 16-day plan in working together with the United Nations’ theme for the 2017 International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, ‘Leave no one behind: End violence against women and girls.’
