The Police in Katsina have launched a massive manhunt for two suspected assailants who attacked the residence of former Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Coomassie at the weekend, the state commissioner of Police Besen Dapiya Gwana has said.

Two armed hoodlums riding on a motorbike attacked mobile policemen posted on guard duty at the residence, killing one and injuring another.

Speaking at a press conference, Gwana gave the names of the killed officer as Sgt Musa Ibrahim attached to 27 Police Mobile Squadron, Katsina while the injured officer is Cpl Shitu Maikudi who is currently receiving medical attention.

He said 18 empty shells of expended ammunition were recovered at the scene and that the command was assiduously making efforts to arrest the fleeing hoodlums and recover their operational arms.

“But for the gallantry displayed by the policemen on duty at the residence of the former inspector general of police, the suspected hoodlums would have gained entry into the house and wreaked havoc,” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Aminu Masari has commiserated with the former Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Sardaunan Katsina, Alhaji Ibrahim Commassie over the incident, especially the loss of the security personnel.

Masari in a statement by his media aide Abdu Labaran described the attack as dastardly, callous and cowardly, vowing that all those behind the targeted attack would be fished out and punished accordingly.

Also, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has condemned Saturday’s attack on the residence of the former Inspector General of Police.

The ACF in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Muhammad Ibrahim Boy, urged the security agencies to spare nothing to get at the perpetrators and bring them to justice, as the incidence of unknown gunmen killing innocent citizens and security personnel was worrisome.
