21,780 of 33,000 Kaduna teachers fail primary 4 exam - El-Rufai

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State yesterday disclosed that about 21,780 out of 33,000 teachers failed the primary four examination administered to test their competence.

El-rufai who disclosed this when he received a World Bank delegation, also said that the state was currently shopping for about 25,000 new teachers as part of plans to restore quality of education.

“We tested 33,000 primary school teachers by giving them primary four examination. They were expected to get at least 75percent but I am sad to announce that 66 percent of the teachers did not get the required percentage. The hiring of teachers in the past was politicized and we are determined to change the trend by bringing in young and qualified primary school teachers to take education in the state to a greater heights,” he said.

He said the school feeding program initiated by the state government and the GPE scholarship had raised school enrolment from 1.1million to 2.1million pupils.

He also said school directors, as part of their determination to improve the education sector, had decided to enroll their wards in public schools beginning from this academic session.

The representative of the World Bank, Dr. Olatunde Adekola had earlier ordered the immediate release of N30 million to improve teaching and learning facilities at the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Primary School in Rigasa with a population of over 23,000 pupils.
