Pillars back to drawing board – Babangida

- By David Ngobua

@Ngobuadavid The chairman of Kano Pillars Football Club, Alhaji Tukur Babangida has said the club did not perform up to expectations this season so there is every need to commence preparations for next season without further delay.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the football administrator said the government and people of Kano State gave the club all the necessary support but several factors contributed to the unsatisfactory performance.

He said even as Pillars have retained their place in the NPFL, expectations at the beginning of the season were for the former champions to win the title.

Babangida however said he was grateful that in as much as the club did not win the title or a continental ticket, they still ended among the first ten clubs.

He therefore said the management of the club will take a look at the technical report and kick-start preparations for next season.

According to him, some of the players who did not show enough commitment would be shown the exit door for more committed and dedicated players to come in.

For the technical crew, he said it was too early to make a decision whether or not to retain the present handlers of the team.

“The season has just ended but we are already looking ahead. We want to commence preparation for next season immediately.

“We have to look at the factors that denied us the title and move on from there. The government played its part but the team’s performance fell below expectations,” he said.
