Lawyers laud CAC online reforms

- By Francis Arinze Iloani

Lawyers at the 2017 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) have lauded the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) for its online company registration portal while complying with the ease of doing business directive.

A statement by CAC Head, Public Affairs, Godfrey Ike, said the applause came shortly after the Registrar-General of CAC, Bello Mahmud, presented the statutory report of the commission at the conference which held in Lagos recently.

Mr Mahmud noted that the deployment of the user-friendly Company Registration Portal (CRP) afforded customers online and real-time access to services outside the commission while using different e-payment platforms.

To encourage the use of the CRP, it stopped manual submission of documents in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Kano, Lagos and Enugu for new incorporation just as he said there is an on-going training of customers on the use of the initiative.

He said a single new Form CAC 1.1 has been introduced to replace the old Forms 2, 3, 4 and 7. The form has been deployed in the CRP and is also available on the commission’s website.

Mahmud said CAC is strengthening registration of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with active participation in the nationwide MSME Clinic coordinated by the Office of the Vice President.

The registrar-general also disclosed that in addition to interactions with members of the legal profession, the commission had other stakeholders’ engagements through its periodic customers’ forum held at Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Kano.
