CITY NEWS Gunmen kidnap 4 in Kuje village 19 criminal suspects surrender in Abaji

Gunmen have, again, kidnapped four people in Puni village, Kuje Area Council, FCT. This happened barely three days after other gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, killed one person and abducted six others in Darka community of Kuje.

A resident of the community, who identified himself as Aliyu, said the gunmen invaded the community and shot sporadical­ly into the air.

He said the gunmen went into four houses whisked away four male adults and escaped through the bush to unknown place.

He said that some residents of the community were forced to flee into the bush, following the sporadic gunshots fired by the suspected gunmen which lasted for an hour.

He added that the gunmen raided some shops at the community and carted undisclose­d sums of money and foodstuffs.

“The gunmen shot into the air for almost an hour, throwing the entire residents into panic,” he said. “Some people abandoned their houses and flee into the bush.

“They also stole foodstuffs and an undisclose­d sum of money before they fled with four prominent people they kidnapped.”

Reacting, the chairman of the council, Alhaji Abdullahi D. Galadima, confirmed the incident. He said that though he was yet to get details of the incident, he had reported the matter to the security agents and policemen had been deployed to the community. At least, 19 suspects, who confessed to committing crimes ranging from cattle rustling, stealing of motorcycle­s and armed banditry across villages in Abaji Area Council, have surrendere­d.

The chairman of the council, Alhaji Abdulrahma­n Ajiya, who led the Divisional Police Officer of the council, CSP David Kolo, some top security officers and traditiona­l rulers to Gawu Primary School, Saturday, witnessed the confession­s of the suspected criminals.

The criminals swore never return to criminal activities.
