Academic ranking of varsities to leap – TETFund
Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro has said academic standing of Nigeria universities will improve due to the provision of adequate intervention on infrastructure and research.
He said though the improved ranking of Nigerian universities in Africa is commendable, efforts should be made to improve their performance at the global level.
Bogoro stated this at the commissioning of TETFund sponsored projects at the Kogi State University Anyigba recently.
Bogoro noted that before he assumed work about a year ago, less than 50 per cent of higher institutions in the country were able to access TETFund due to their low rating.
“Most public tertiary institutions in the country have in the past been unable to meet two-third of accreditation requirements, but with the intervention of TETFund in infrastructural and human capacity development in the institutions, the situations have improved,” he said.
Meanwhile, the state Governor, Captain Idris Wada, said establishment of anatomy department in the institution was in preparation for clinical studies at the School of Medicine.
The governor, who expressed satisfaction with the quality of projects executed by the university, said facilities put in place at the school would create conducive learning environment for the medical students.
