Kwara PDP: Confusion deepens over Gbemi Saraki
There is confusion in the Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the status of Senator Gbemisola Saraki.
Gbemi, who was a gubernatorial aspirant of the party, has recently distanced herself from the party’s activities following alleged maltreatment.
She was absent at President Goodluck Jonathan’s rally and the flag-off of the party’s campaign and other activities of the party thus fueling speculation of her exit from the party.
Though Gbemi said she remains in PDP, it is not clear if her supporters who raised the issue of marginalization of their principal still remain in the party or would join another party.
Asked whether she had given any specific instruction to her supporters, Gbemi cleverly said her supporters do not require any instruction as they are matured enough to determine their future.
State secretary of the party, Barr. Hassan Razak, who is believed to be a loyalist of Gbemi, issued a statement pleading with her not to leave the party.
“We consider it expedient to implore Senator Saraki and her teeming supporters not to allow the voices of division to overwhelm them. At this critical time in the life of our party in Kwara State, we believe that all hands must be on deck to sustain the party and lead it to victory in the forthcoming polls,” the statement added.
However, the state publicity secretary Chief Rex Olawoye who has always spoken on behalf of the party and signed official press statements, in a chat with Daily Trust said the secretary’s statement represents his opinion and not that of the party.
