Iorfa wants Gombe win as birthday gift

- By David Ngobua

Former international and Vice Chairman Lobi Stars Football Club Dominic Iorfa has charged his players to record a convincing victory over visiting Gombe United tomorrow as his birthday gift.

Born on October 1 in Gboko LGA of Benue State, Iorfa also told Daily Trust that he is so excited that God has added yet another year to his success- ful years on earth.

He said even as he is not going to throw a lavish party to celebrate his birthday, victory over Gombe United will make his day.

“Although October 1 is my birthday, I am not going to organise any birthday party. All I want is for my boys to beat Gombe United so that we would move to the middle of the table”, he said.

It will also be recalled that Iorfa played profes- sional football in England, Scotland, Turkey, Ireland and Belgium, having came to limelight with defunct BCC Lions of Gboko, and he has played for defunct Abiola Babes and Ranchers Bees in the 80’s.

Renowned for his electric pace, he became a cult figure at many of the clubs he played for, particularly at Peterborough United where his name is still occasionally shouted during dull periods of matches.

Iorfa who was a member of the 1988 Seoul Olympic team played 15 times for the Nigeria national football team. His son, also called Dominic, plays as a defender for the England U18 and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He is also a former member of the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation and has been in charge of Lobi Stars since 2002.
