WTAF approve Nigeria Open as 2020 Olympic qualifier
T‘Jide @jide_olusola he World Taekwondo Africa (WTAF) has approved the second edition of Nigeria Open to serve as qualifier for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
This approval came following the upgrading of the Nigeria Taekwondo Open to international competition by WTAF after been listed on the World Taekwondo calendar for its 2018 championships
The president of the body, Ahmed Fouly has showered praises on Elizabeth Binga-led Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) board were contained in an official letter addressed to NTF President.
His message reads inter alia; “It gives me great pleasure to congratulate you on being granted World taekwondo approval on organising 2nd Nigeria Open Championship, which will be held between November 16 and 18, 2018 in Abuja.
This Championship which is listed on WT calendar 2018 will be a qualifying championship for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and therefore its success is of utmost importance to World Taekwondo Africa. Wishing you all the best in this coming event.”
Meanwhile, Technical Director of NTF, Engr Chika Chukwumerije has dished out words of appreciation to the media and relevant Stakeholders for their continued support and commitment so far.
Chukwumerije who spoke on the sidelines of recent approval for upcoming Taekwondo Open to adjudged as G-1 tournament stated; “A dream of four years has taken its first steps towards reality. The NTF thanks you for your consistent support of Taekwondo. The exposure that you and your platform have given to Taekwondo over the years surely helped World Taekwondo come this decision.”
Daedo Gen two electronic body scoring system, Dartfish Video replay system and the Taekoplan Overall Management System (latest technological facilities) will be used during the taekwondo open event.
