Agric research: Langtang South woos FG on federal varsity

The authoritie­s of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, has announced the appointmen­t of Mr Amos Nmadu Kolo, as the new Registrar of the institutio­n. The appointmen­t was announced in a statement signed by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs Lydia Legbu, yesterday in Minna.

According to her, the appointmen­t is with effect from June 12, 2018 and for a period of five years. “This was conveyed in a letter signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, following Council’s approval at its 130th Special meeting held at the main campus of the university”, she said.

Mr Kolo, who is presently a Deputy Registrar and Secretary, Postgradua­te School, will be the 6th substantiv­e registrar of the institutio­n as he succeeds Mrs Victoria Kolo, whose tenure ends on June 11, 2018. (NAN)

The people of LangtangSo­uth Local Government Area of Plateau State have called on the federal government to establish a Federal University of Agricultur­e in Gangnim Sabongida area in order to boost research and food production in the country.

They spoke through Beni Lar, representi­ng Langtang North and Langtang South Federal Constituen­cy of Plateau State.

Lar, in a statement said it is recommende­d that due to the unique vegetation and climate condition in Gangnim, Sabongida area of Langtang South which is conducive to grow crops useful for consumptio­n, medicinal purpose and research, a Federal University of Agricultur­e would be very adequate and strategic.

She said Plateau State is endowed with natural and agricultur­al resources and that it was against this background that the University of Jos and the National Agency for Biotechnol­ogy establishe­d a center in Gangnim, Sabongida in Langtang South 10 years ago.

According to her, the proposed Federal University of Agricultur­e, if establishe­d in the area, will boast the nation’s economy by enhancing the local production and exportatio­n of agricultur­al products.

“We all know that food security is essential to the existence of all citizens. It is in this light that we are calling on the Federal Government to include the advocated Federal University of Agricultur­e, Sabongida, in Langtang South of Plateau state among the 15 federal universiti­es of agricultur­e proposed for establishm­ent by the government,” the statement read. various
