Everton’s Lookman should take a cue from Iwobi – Sadi

- By Mansur Abubakar

Former Super Eagles midfielder Dahiru Sadi says Everton youngster Ademola Lookman should learn from the Alex Iwobi example by committing his future to Nigeria instead of the English Three Lions. The 19-year-old forward made a sensational debut against Manchester City last Sunday, coming on for the last four minutes of the game and managing to score the final goal in a 4-0 victory. Sadi in a chat with Fever Pitch believes the Nigeria Football Federation should try its best to convince the British born player that Eagles represent a better choice for him to grow due to a lot of factors.

“If you look at the Super Eagles present team, Lookman will have a better chance of growing into a superstar compared to England and he should just look at how Alex Iwobi is flourishing in the national team, I will advise him to choose wisely but the NFF need to try hard to convince him as they did with Iwobi.” The former Hamburg player noted.

Meanwhile, the technical director of the country’s football ruling body Bitrus Bewarang has disclosed that all hands are on deck to ensure the prodigy represents the Super Eagles

“He has Nigerian parents and we’d need to speak to him first,” Bewarang told BBCSport.

“I saw him against Manchester City and I was excited to see a young player of Nigerian descent shine, so I thought why not.

“It is the duty of the national coach (Gernot Rohr) to invite players to the national team, but we will help him check Lookman’s eligibility.

“We’ve managed to get players like Moses and Iwobi in the past and Lookman will be a great addition to the national team if we got him.

“We have a young side, the new coach is building a strong squad and having some youngsters from the Premier League [Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi] could help his decision. “I am not desperate to see this happen but we will give it a shot.” The former England U18 and 19 player scored 12 goals in 49 games for Charlton, who were relegated to League One at the end of last season.
