James Ebo Whyte, Ghanaian writer, is guest on Glo/CNN African Voices

Ghanaian playwright James Ebo Whyte will be the special guest on this weekend’s edition of Glo/CNN African Voices. He is the third literary star to take his seat on the programme in recent time after Nigeria’s Ben Okri and Biyi Bandele-Thomas.

Viewers can connect with Whyte, who is popularly called Uncle Ben, on the show which runs at 8.30 a.m. on Friday. There are repeat broadcasts at 3.30 p.m. on Saturday, 3.30 a.m., 9:00 a.m and 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. The programme also runs on Monday at 2:30a.m., 10:30a.m., and 5:30 p.m. It will further be shown on Tuesday at 5:30a.m. and on Wednesday at 8.30 a.m.

Glo/CNN African Voices is a half-hour magazine programme sponsored by national telecoms operator, Globacom. The programme brings to viewers successful and high-profile personalit­ies shaping the African continent.

James Ebo Whyte is a renowned playwright who helped revive theater in his native Ghana. The writer, popularly known as “Uncle Ebo,” is a passionate storytelle­r with a series of plays to his credit that keep people coming back and filling seats at theatre halls. Whyte will talk about the lifechangi­ng events that have helped him become the confident writer, director, and successful producer he is today.

For the past thirteen years, Uncle Ebo has been working hard at creating a niche for himself as a household name in Theatre Arts and says: “The possibilit­ies in the theatre industry are endless.”

Renowned for

his thoroughne­ss, his hard work has paid off as he has had two huge successes within the last couple of months with his plays “Unhappy Wives Confused Husbands” and “Mr. President watch your move.”

Uncle Ebo trained as a statistici­an at the University of Ghana. He tutored himself to take his chartered account and marketing exams and worked as the head of Marketing and Finance in a booksellin­g company. He was also the General Manager of a pharmaceut­ical company, head of Marketing and Sales of an automobile company as well as head of Finance in a non-bank financial institutio­n.

He tells viewers why he decided to abandon the corporate world for a career in theatre. He also talks about his hugely popular inspiratio­nal programme “Food for Thought” on Ghana’s Joy FM.”
