Nigeria draw Argentina again!

- David Ngobua

AFRICAN Champions, the Super Eagles have once again drawn South American giants, Argentina, making it the fourth time in five World Cup appearances.

At yesterday’s draws for the 2014 World Cup held in Salavador, Brazil, Nigeria was drawn in Group F along with Argentina, Iran from Asia and BosniaHerzegovia the new comers from Europe.

The Eagles have previously drawn Argentina in 1994, 2002 and 2010 in South Africa.

The Nigerians have never beaten Argentina in any of their previous world Cup meetings having lost 1- 2 in 1994, 0- 1 in 2002 and 2010.

Reacting to the draw, former international and member of France 98 World Cup squad, Garba Lawal said Nigeria and Argentina must give due respect to Iran and Bosnia.

He said having qualified for the World Cup finals, Iran and Bosnia certainly have something to offer on the biggest stage.

Lawal noted that Argentina and Nigeria may progress from the group but the other two nations will give them a run for their money.

He therefore said Eagles must win the first two matches in order to stand a good chance of qualifying for the next round.

“There is so much temptation to write off Iran and Bosnia but I don’t think it is going to be easy for any team in the group.

“Nigeria and Argentina must give Iran and Bosnia their due respect. For the Eagles, I see them doing well but they must win their first two matches”, he said.
