Leave PDP now, APC lures Nyako

- Kabiru R. Anwar, Yola

THE visit by the All Progressives Peoples (APC) national leaders who thronged Adamawa State yesterday to persuade Nyako to join their party might have yielded fruits as the governor has publicly expressed his willingness to join the APC “if APC means saving the country”.

Responding to invitation by the APC elders, Nyako who is a PDP member said, “The PDP is very, very sick. If APC means making Nigeria a key player in Africa, or saving Nigeria or securing Nigeria, I don’t mind being in any political party”.

He added “the PDP is on the verge of death because the leaders in Abuja have given the party a terrifying upper-cut. If the party is dead nobody should expect me to follow a dead party into the grave”.

He also explained that the caliber of the APC delegation and its composition serve as testimony to the nobility of their mission, saying Nigeria will benefit from their efforts at uniting the country and giving its people hope and purposeful leadership.

Speaking earlier, the APC chairman, Chief Bisi Akande said their mission to Yola was to persuade Nyako to join their party which was poised towards entrenching true democracy, rule of law and good governance..

“Nigerians are now are tired of the injustice and impunity hence the resolve to bring change. I can assure you that in APC, internal democracy is guaranteed. Please let’s not make mistakes; the time is ripe for change. Our discussions with other governors is very fruitful ahead of the proposed merger,’’ said Akande.

In his speech, General Muhammadu Buhari advised Nyako to team up with APC for the realization of peace and prosperity in the country.

“All that we are trying to do is to get this country out of the current mess. In our bid to do that, Adamawa state must join us. That is why we are here. We need peace and prosperity in this country”, he said.
