George on alert

Fears for his babies

-

Stepping out in Paris last week, George Clooney and his pregnant wife Amal, who are expecting twins in June, looked every inch the glamorous and thrilled parents-to-be.

The Hollywood A-lister was there to pick up a César Award from the French Film Academy, but insiders say the 55-year-old star’s most convincing piece of acting in some time was on the red carpet before the event.

“George always looks like he’s so in control,” a well-placed source reports, speaking exclusively to

Woman’sDay. “But underneath that suave exterior, he’s constantly worried about security now that Amal is expecting. He secretly fears for their lives and he’s gone a bit extreme on it all. No matter how much security is around them, he considers himself Amal’s best protector.”

George smiled as he spoke at the glittering event of his joy about becoming a first-time father. “We are really happy and really excited,” he gushed. “It’s going to be an adventure. We’ve sort of embraced it all with arms wide open.”

But in his next breath, he added that he and Amal, 39, were curtailing their travel to dangerous countries. “We decided to be much more responsible to avoid the danger. I won’t go to South Sudan any more or the Congo. Amal will no longer go to Iraq and she’ll avoid places where she knows she isn’t welcome. How can we not be anxious about this immense responsibility?”

George has beefed up his security team in fear someone will try to hurt Amal or kidnap the twins after they’re born. Yet while the Beirut-born human rights barrister is touched by her husband’s concern for her safety, she’s told him he’s overreacting.

“She has begged him to stop being so paranoid,” our source reveals. “She tells him there are plenty of other celebrities, even royalty and politicians, with kids who don’t go this overboard.

She really wants him to enjoy this time. It might be the only pregnancy they have.

“George was so preoccupied with security matters that he missed the babies’ first kicks. Amal was amazed and delighted by the experience, and disappointed for George that he wasn’t focused on it.”

The couple’s appearance at the César Awards was their first time together in Paris and also the first time Amal has shown off her bump since the couple announced they were expecting. She stunned the crowd in a form-fitting Atelier Versace gown that proudly hugged her thickening waist.

More used to late-night parties fuelled by his Casamingos tequila than 4am nappy changes, George told of the moment he broke the news about his impending fatherhood to friends, recalling, “It got really quiet, then they all started making baby-crying noises and the whole table just busted up laughing.”

Another Clooney insider, meanwhile, spills that Amal has been craving carbs, including pasta, pizza, rice, potatoes and bread, and it’s been the perfect opportunity for George to chow down on comfort foods too.

“The problem is, while Amal has been experiencing a healthy weight gain, papa George has packed on a few pregnancy kilos,” laughs the insider. “He’s hoping once the twins arrive, his appetite for fattening foods will disappear too!”
