Blinds firm on the market
In an era of mass-produced, one-sizefits-all products, it is not often you find smart local businesses taking the traditional path to produce custommade goods. Wholesale Blinds NZ in Papakura is one such business, and it is now for sale for the first time in almost 20 years.
The company is being brought to the market by Daryl Webb from ABC Business Sales.
“Wholesale Blinds specializes in the manufacture of horizontal blinds and roller blinds,” says Webb. “They have nurtured a great reputation for high quality and fast turnaround. It is a great little business.”
The company was founded in 2001 by the current owners and has built a loyal nationwide commercial customer base of home decorators and retail stores. These customers place repeat orders without additional sales and marketing efforts.
Wholesale Blinds have a small, experienced manufacturing team working flexible hours matched to demand. Currently operating from a self-contained site in Papakura, there is significant scope and capacity to grow. A new owner could also easily relocate the business anywhere nationwide to suit.
“The business provides a great base to build from, and there is significant potential for a new owner to grow the sales base depending on their interests and skills” explains
Webb. “Blinds are a big market, and Wholesale Blinds have a strong customer base that can easily be grown through focused sales effort.”
Wholesale Blinds make PVC and wooden horizontal blinds, and manual or automatic roller blinds. These blinds can be made in a variety of colours, materials, and sizes to suit the exact requirements of the endcustomer.
Webb sees growth could also come through online ordering with the wholesale base, providing a catalog of the product ranges that their clients can use to talk through options with end-customers.
As the sales build, the existing bespoke manufacturing capacity could be enhanced through the investment of some specialist technologies to automate steps in the manufacturing process. “The barriers to entry are their loyal customer base and their depth of experience. A new owner can build on this, extending the business in new directions and through the gradual introduction of new manufacturing technologies.”
New product development is largely driven by new materials and technologies developed offshore that are available in the market. Incorporating these innovations will continue to enhance the product range.
