Nightcaps keep hold of coveted Laing Shield

Nightcaps has seen off another Laing Shield challenge, with a 6-0 win over Greenacres over the weekend. Leading the way was 85-yearold Snow Black with a 7/5 win over Roy Algar.

Results were: Brett Dobbie beat Teagan Proudfoot 3/2, Kyle Dobbie beat Bill Irvine 5/4, James Harding beat Robbie Birch 2/1, Stu Dobbie beat Bill Harvey 5/3, Ross Mangels beat Steve Harris 2/1 and Snow Black beat Roy Algar 7/5.

Nightcaps’ next challenge is against Tuatapere.

* * * * * Another challenge for the Gilmour Rosebowl, another Waikaka win. This trophy is becoming increasing­ly comfortabl­e in the Waikaka cupboards, after the ladies recorded another win, this time a 5-0 win over Riversdale.

Results were: Adie Crispin beat Shona Welsh 4/3, Dianne Cleland beat Mary Dillon 3/2, Janis Steel beat Pam Snell 4/3, Deryn Cullen beat Marie Roy 2/1 and Monica Hansen beat Lesley Clark 8/7.

Waikaka’s next challenge will be from Drummond in May.

* * * * * The MLT Vice Presidents Pennants competitio­n is in full swing, with the latest round playing out at Winton Golf Club.

Queens Park had a 3-3 draw with Greenacres 2. Results were: Liam Hewitt defeated Tegan Proudfoot 1up, Jeff Mowat defeated Luke Harvey 2/1, Rex McDonald lost to Steve Kennard 2 down, Mark Boniface lost to Bill Irvine 4/2, Peter Black lost to Stu Coburn 4/3 and Graham McKenzie won by default.

In the other match up, Greenacres 1 had a 6-0 win over Invercargi­ll. Results were: Daniel Mills defeated Tyler McLean 1up, Bryce Geary defeated Craig O’Rorke 5/3, Chris Sherlock defeated Tony Chadderton 2/1, Robbie Birch defeated Mark Horgan 3/1, Brent Allison defeated Ross Cambell 2/1 and Rob Dreaver defeated Chris McMillan 2/1.

The next round will be played on Saturday and will determine the semifinali­sts.

* * * * * The MLT Handicap Pennants is also being contested across 28 teams from 16 clubs, with the latest rounds played last weekend at Riverton, Drummond, Wyndham and Hedgehope.

In Division 1 Queens Park A topped the scoring, which puts them with a comfortabl­e overall division lead with 638, over Tokanui (541) and Mossburn (653).

Wyndham claimed top points in Division 2, however the overall division lead is with Waikaka (624), over Greenacres B (632) and Mataura 2 (634).

In Division 3, Tuatapere was the best of the latest round, and they also have the overall division lead with 638, over Queens Park C (250) and Gore 1 (653).

And in Division 4, Hedgehope A took round honours, and in the overall division 4 standings Queens Park D leads with 639, over Hedgehope A (639) and Winton (647).

Round four will tee off on Sunday.
