New EV6 has bigger battery, angrier face
The South Korean car maker has given its EV6 a mid-life update.
Kia has given the EV6 a refresh, involving updated looks and a fatter battery for more driving range. The new styling is more apparent upfront, with angular DRLs emulating similar arrangements on other new Kia models like the EV9 and EV5, along with reworked bumpers and new-look wheels coming in 19- and 20-inch flavours. The rear light bar has also been slightly adjusted but generally looks the same.
Inside is a new curved panoramic screen that runs Kia’s latest infotainment system, as well as supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Over-the-air update capabilities have also improved, with the vehicle’s major electronic systems able to be remotely updated, along with infotainment.
The steering wheel is also new, bringing sensors to detect if you’re touching it so the lane-keep and adaptive cruise control systems don’t beep at you too much.
Another fingerprint sensor has been added to allow drivers to start the car by pressing their finger on a pad, which also holds all your saved settings.
Finally, an augmented reality navigation system is included, which uses graphical overlays to improve usage.
Under the skin is an 84kWh battery, up from the previous 77kWh unit, but Kia is yet to provide range figures for all models.
According to the brand, single-motor models can get up to 494km of range, but it’s unclear if this is using the WLTP test or another test cycle.
Outputs remain the same, with reardrive EV6s producing 168kW/350Nm while the twin-motor AWD models sit at 239kW/605Nm.
According to the manufacturer, the suspension has been adjusted as well, allowing for both a more comfortable and more dynamic ride.
Kia hasn’t mentioned any specific changes to the flagship GT model yet.
Updated Kiwi pricing is also yet to be confirmed, but we should get that information in the near future as the new model launches.
