Say hello to the tiniest of tiny houses

-

There’s tiny and there’s very tiny.

At 6.37 square metres, the Magenta tiny house by Joshua Woodsman of Pin-Up Houses is one of the latter. And while it looks like a wee caravan, the company describes the tiny house as ‘‘a manifesto of temporary independent housing, against debt and mortgages’’.

True, you could live in it, assuming you can cope with the colour.

It is, after all, well insulated, and built from waterproof plywood, spruce beams and laths. It even comes with a wood-burner to keep you warm in the winter.

There’s also a sofa bed, a small kitchenette, chemical toilet and built-in furniture providing storage.

Stretched nets on the ceiling are used for stowing items.

The house is wired, and can be connected to the mains by a cable. There are four interior lights, one exterior light, and three electrical outlets.

The kitchenette has a water tank, gas cooker and plenty of open and sealable drawers.

Outdoor light and a tilting outdoor table allow you to spend romantic dinners anywhere in the countryside.

However, there is no shower, so you may want to camp by water so you can bathe, or have a campstyle portable shower.

For handy DIYers, you can even build it yourself – the plans are on the company’s website.

And the cost? The company estimates NZ$14,500 for a readymade version in the US, but the plans are just NZ$115 and the estimated DIY cost is around NZ$3500.
