Woman ‘fell to her death taking selfie’

-

A London coroner has confirmed Dargaville woman Toni Kelly died after falling from a second-storey window.

A spokeswoman for the Inner West London Coroner told The Evening Standard an inquest had been opened into the 20-year-old’s death, with a hearing due to take place on January 24.

The spokeswoman said: ‘‘We can confirm she fell from the window,’’ the newspaper reported.

Kelly suffered a serious brain injury after the fall at her home in Tooting. She died two days later on November 14.

It is believed she was taking a selfie at the time, The Evening Standard reported.

This has not been confirmed by her family or UK officials.

It is understood Kelly had moved to the UK in August as part of a teaching programme. Her family had flown to London to be by her side, and a Givealittle page had been set up to help bring her body back to New Zealand.

Friend Lucy Griffiths, who started the fundraising page, said Kelly was a ‘‘young, happy and beautiful girl’’. ‘‘This money will help the family bring Toni home and pay for any extra expenses,’’ she wrote on the page.

Childhood friend Paige Hourigan told the Daily Mail Australia that Toni was ‘‘the girl who was always smiling’’ and was ‘‘the most fun’’ to be around.

‘‘When we were young Toni was one of those people that never had anything bad to say about anyone, she was super girly, laid back and fun which I loved,’’ Hourigan said.
