CricHQ looks to raise its bat with prize tech

Cricket app CricHQ has put some more runs on its awards board after being shortlisted for a prize previously won by brands including Wimbledon and the NBA.

The Wellington company has been nominated for an award at the United Kingdom-based Sports Technology Awards.

Its app was a finalist in the BestIntegrated Digital Media category, and CricHQ’s entry featured its recent acquisition of My Action Replay, which allowed teams to live-stream their matches alongside live match data and infographics in the broadcast.

CricHQ founder Simon Baker said the company had had a good run of award nominations over the past year. This included a win at the New Zealand Excellence in IT Awards, one at the CMO Asia Awards, and a highly commended nod at the Innovation Awards.

‘‘This is a big award … and for us to make the finals is really amazing,’’ Baker said.

The awards will be presented next month.

Earlier this month, CricHQ chairman Kevin Roberts said the company intended to become the world’s largest broadcaster of cricket after it bought My Action Replay for an undisclosed sum.

Roberts, a former Saatchi & Saatchi executive chairman, said the acquisition was the type of development that made CricHQ a leader in sports tech.

It claimed to record one in every 10 balls bowled in organised cricket globally, but was targeting one in every two within four years.
