Gas- JAMES CAMERON’S Wairarapa buy-up continues, with the purchase of two more parcels of land – one of them from leading New Zealand film figures.

The Avatar and Titanic director has now bought at least 12 properties in southern Wairarapa, mostly near Featherston. He has been quietly expanding his holdings along the western shore of Lake Wairarapa and the hills above it.

Land Information New Zealand published some details yesterday on the latest purchases, saying that, through his New Zealand company T Base 2, Cameron had bought 6.7 hectares of land and a separate parcel of 41.43ha in Western Lake Rd.

The smaller property belonged to New Zealand film and business power couple Sir David Gascoigne and Dame Patsy Reddy, along with his family’s privacy.

According to Linz: ‘‘James Cameron and his family intend to reside indefinitely in New Zealand. They are acquiring the land as part of a larger acquisition of land in South Wairarapa, which they will use as a residence and working farm.’’

Last year, Cameron bought a 420ha dairy farm in Western Lake Rd for a confidential sum. It was his 10th property purchase in the area in less than two years. Others include a walnut orchard in Carterton.

Documents issued under the Official Information Act in 2012 showed that Cameron applied for New Zealand residency under Immigration New Zealand’s Investment Plus category, which is restricted to people investing more than $10m. He was required to spend at least 88 days in the country over two years to meet his residency requirements.
