Does Wellington need more taxis?

-

publicity is disingenuous, at best.

To say that the National-led Government’s treatment of the environment might just reach the level of lip service is generous. The lack of enforcement of environmental regulation is leading down the same slippery slope that health and safety, building and financial regulation have already been down, leading to disaster sooner or later when we’re found to be wearing no clothes on the environmental front or lax bio-security lets in something much worse than the kiwifruit PSA virus. As protectors of this nation’s natural resources, this Government is a complete failure. GRAHAM DICK

Seatoun My wife and I recently took a taxi from Wellington Airport to the corner of Constable and Owen streets in Newtown.

Because it was a Sunday evening, the trip took only about six minutes. The fare was $23. That’s outrageous.

Do we need more taxis to make fares more competitive? Or do we need fewer taxis so that our taxi drivers don’t have to wait so long for each fare? How come Wellington taxis are disproportionately more expensive than in any other New Zealand city?

The most disturbing result of Wellington’s ludicrous taxi prices is that young people often walk part way home after a night out because they can’t afford to get a taxi to their front door. TOM HOVEY
