The Northern Advocate

It is a privilege to work, live and play in one of the world’s most pristine environments —

I want that same privilege and opportunity for our children and future generations.

Our environment needs and deserves protection. I am a father and exceptionally proud grandparent who has worked for and on behalf of the Northland community for over 20 years.

As the area commander for the Whangārei/Kaipara Police I learnt the art of listening, I listened to the community to achieve positive results. I responded to their concerns and desires for our region with integrity, passion and plain hard work.

I took these lessons with me as a regional councillor for six years. In those six years I listened, analysed and voted with an open mind. My vote was always based on the evidence which supported my decision.

The art of good governance is listening, analysing, having an open mind and making decisions on the facts not on any pre-conceived beliefs.

I am open, forthright and confident with expressing my views while always supporting the rights of others to express theirs.

Northland’s economic development is important to me, as is keeping rates affordable, preserving our natural environment, making our roads safe and ensuring the region is the top venue for businesses, families and individuals.

We need an integrated transport system, including rail, for greater efficiency, safety and economic certainty on our roads — a four-lane highway is already designed and ready to go.

My promise to you is strong leadership to see that the aspirations of ALL Northlanders are met.

I have the knowledge and experience gleaned from my many years in the police and local government as well as the commitment and energy to ensure a strong voice on the NRC. Help me to help you ensure we protect our regional environment and continue our economic development.
