Auckland Museum

Free for Auckland residents with proof of address, the museum is a great way to fill up a day. Look, touch and explore the Weird & Wonderful discovery centre, full of hands-on space for discoverin­g the wonders of the natural world.

Head to the zoo

Following the Matariki trail through the zoo, children and adults alike can learn more about nocturnal and crepuscula­r (active during twilight) animals which come to life at night. Auckland Zoo invites you to learn more about these animals in an evening filled with fun, including the chance to collect nine Matariki stars throughout the zoo with a special activity booklet.

Pump it up

Do you have a keen adrenaline junkie who is bouncing off the walls? The Pump Track will be in Northcote’s town centre carpark on Lake Rd, on the North Shore, until the end of the month. Free for all ages, pack in your bike or scooter and have a go.

Science in the city

Back for the July holidays, the Science Roadshow is on at Motat in Western Springs. The travelling science expo boasts an impressive number of interactiv­e exhibits designed to captivate young minds. There are more than 60 hands-on exhibits and two engaging live shows.

Climb a cone

There are dozens of volcanic cones around Auckland and some are easy to climb. From the peak you’ll be able to take in some amazing views of the city and it costs nothing to take part — just make sure you take some comfortabl­e walking shoes.
