Applications open for expo
Sometimes creating art can be easier than getting it seen by the public. The good news is that artists who would like 6000 people to view and buy their work can now apply to enter Art Expo Nelson 2016.
Now in its fifth year, event manager, Nic Foster says it’s always exciting when applications open.
Art sales last year were up 25 per cent on the previous year which organisers attribute to an increase in out of town attendees and more Nelson people realising that having art in their homes can be hugely enriching.
Acrylic and mixed media artist, Melbourn, was a first time entrant and winner last year. She describes the Art Expo Nelson experience as invaluable.
‘‘It is always great to forge new friendships and be inspired by fellow artists and a real treat to meet the buyers of my work in person.’’
Artists wishing to enter can apply now, with selection taking place in early August. The three day event happens over Labour Weekend.
Art Expo Nelson has received sponsorship funding for this year’s event form the Nelson Events Marketing & Development Programme, which is funded by the Nelson City Council. The programme’s objective is to stimulate Nelson city’s economy in the shoulder season by bringing new spending through visitors coming to Nelson for distinct events.
