Mint result for local beauty therapists

-

Two local beauty therapists are celebrating top results in the recent BeautyNZ Association Awards 2019.

Members of the Association of Registered Beauty Professionals joined together to celebrate the ‘best of the best' that the industry offers.

Mint Beauty Therapy team leader Ngaire Wade was named New Zealand Therapist of the Year, while former Mint therapist Hayley James was named Most Promising Beauty Therapist.

Ngaire says she finds it hard to describe how much winning the title means to her.

“To even be considered as a finalist was like winning for me, and now to be New Zealand’s top therapist ... it’s just amazing.” She was required to undertake a huge amount of work to clinch the title.

“I did three case studies on three different clients — each needed a complete plan of treatments, results and home care prescriptions, as well as detailed information about what I did and how I did it.

“I focused on advanced skin care, which is my area of expertise and my passion.”

The completed case studies saw her though to the finals stage.

“I then had an interview with a panel of judges from the association and the results were announced at an awards evening.”

Ngaire has been working at Mint Beauty Therapy for three years, but has been in the industry for nine years.

“I graduated from the Elite School of Beauty and Spa as 2010 Student of The Year and 2010 Beautician of the Year. I worked from home briefly, before becoming an Elite tutor for four years.

“I then returned to the industry by running a small salon and Dermalogica counter before being asked to join the team at Mint.” Ngaire says she is passionate about skincare.

“I truly love what I do and enjoy the people I work with — whether it’s my incredible team or the clients that I have every day.” Bright future

To win the title of Most Promising Beauty Therapist Hayley worked with three clients who had concerns about their skin.

“I had to write a case study for each of the clients — outlining what they were using at home and which treatments they were having in salon.

“I used skin scanning technology, providing before and after pictures, to show evidence of how treatment changed their skin.” An interview process in front of a panel of judges completed the assessment.

Hayley has been in the industry for two years after qualifying at Elite School of Beauty and Spa in 2016. Her first job was at Mint in Te Awamutu.

Hayley says it is amazing to be recognised for all the hard work she has put into her studies and day-to-day work.

“I am hugely passionate about making woman feel amazing in their own skin. Being able to work with the best therapists and best products in the industry is something that excites me.”

She says creating a client’s ‘dream’ skin is the favourite part of her job.

“My goal is to become a dermatologist and work with skin every day, possibly making products or working for a big skincare brand.”
