or future commercial start up enterprises, so that all ratepayers know where they stand.
It has always been assumed that T.D.C. has a formal consensus local act within the law to negotiate with Iwi on behalf of all ratepayers to initiate these licensing programmes.
The mind boggles with the multimillion dollar bungy jumping business the Iwi CEO mentioned.
Does the Iwi charge the bungy jumper themselves and also a twin carrying passenger with a sized capacity or weight formula for free falling the 200 metres through the iwi owned and controlled air column space above the river?
Or is it just as he says, just a fixed dollar a head to be fair and equitable within a responsible scaled mystically arranged methodology?
The immovable fixation that any iwi has rights to impose any form of raced based tribal compliance’s against modern law abiding nz society that is now spanning 177 years, needs to be addressed very soon, not only in taupo but across the nation as it will have an uncertainty, and suicidal economic outcome for all.

MAKE OBLIGATIONS CLEAR
Labour must do all that it can to ensure that local tourism operators and businesses in Taupo¯ are clear about their obligations to Tu¯ wharetoa.
Tourism is a significant contributor to the local economy in Taupo¯ and it is important that tourism operators and local businesses are able to ensure that commercial opportunities are uninterrupted.
It is especially important any concessions charged by Tu¯ wharetoa are fair and reasonable so that the small businesses operating on Lake Taupo¯ are not subjected to hefty leases or concessions that will put the financial viability of the businesses at risk.
Labour must move quickly to provide clarity to Tu¯ wharetoa and other relevant parties on the Deed, and be prepared to change to the Deed if necessary.
I had been working well towards an agreed solution with all parties that ensures that Lake Taupo¯ can be enjoyed by all and remain a feature of the local economy.
Local businesses need details about the scope of who is included and required to pay a concession or lease, to be confident that the terms of the lease and rate of renewals won’t hinder investment in these important businesses and that there are simple dispute resolution mechanisms.
This needs to be dealt with appropriately and urgently to ensure that the local economy does not suffer and that important relationships are not damaged. Not only for the benefit of the community but also for New Zealand.
Clarity and a commitment from the Government to resolve outstanding issues with the Deed is needed in the interests of all involved, but particularly the small businesses in Taupo¯ .
MP for Taupo Louise Upston If ‘‘ownership’’ means that the owners are endowed with a legal commercial right to charge a fee then what’s the problem?
So long as that fee is fair, negotiable and both parties have legal redress if there’s a dispute it’s pretty much part & parcel of normal life?
If the user and owner engage in good faith and the usage is minimal then maybe the fee is zero?
Provided they use those funds to keep it clean and up keep it up to standard for those who use it/pay for it and not the council/taxpayer... go for it.

Yuss about time. I took my 5 children to the boat habour to have dinner tonight and a campervan parked beside me taking up 2 parks.
He then went on to set up his dinner table blocking my kids acess to the car via my drivers side of the car.
I asked him how he expected my kids to get into the car considering his table was almost touching my car and he turned around and said can’t they use the other side of the car?
I thought that was rather rude as I have an 18mth old that sits in a carseat behind me.
He moved his table then asked if we were leaving anytime soon as he was hungry and wanted to set his table up for dinner. I was so mad.
Michelle Ruchti-jackson: Great out come for Ferry Road .
I hope they’ve banned them from the float plane car park as well. It’s like a camp ground down there.
About time. A shame Reids farm will still be trashed and used as a great big public toilet, then maintained and cleaned at rate payers expense.
