PM Key goes back to kindergarten

-

‘‘We discovered that John Key is a creative book reader as he added his on twist to the story.’’ Jayne Vuglar

The children at BestStart’s Community Kindy Heuheu St had a surprise visitor on Friday, the Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key.

Despite being taken by surprise, the children quickly assembled to sing him a waiata.

Travis Webb, a four-year-old who knew exactly who the visitor was, called out clearly from the group ‘‘Hello John Key.’’

‘‘It was such a great welcome, despite the children having no prior warning,’’ Centre Manager Jayne Vuglar said.

‘‘They did the centre proud, and I think Mr Key really enjoyed it.’’

Key read the children one his favourite books, Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy.

‘‘The children were very engaged, it was wonderful.

‘‘We discovered that John Key is a creative book reader as he added his on twist to the story,’’ Vuglar said.

After reading the book, Key took part in a classic science experiment, a baking soda volcano.

‘‘We gave him the honour of pouring vinegar onto its baking soda centre,’’ Vulgar said.

‘‘It’s a centre favourite, and we never get tired of it, no matter how young or old you are – or whether you’re the Prime Minster of New Zealand.’’
