Real Life

Join Puke Ariki’s Home Work artist Marianne Muggeridge to learn the art of drawing the human form from life. In an adults-only session the Taranaki artist, who was taught life drawing at Auckland’s Elam School of Fine Arts in 1971, will host the workshop at the Waitara Community Library on Thursday, November 2 from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. The event is suited to both beginners and avid artists. Some supplies will be provided.

Organ Recital

The next organ recital at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, New Plymouth, will take place on Tuesday, November 7 at 1pm. Organist Christophe­r Luke will perform works by J.S. Bach, Christophe­r Tambling, Norman Warren and Noel Rawsthorne’s Variations on Lord of the Dance on the 1973 George Croft pipe organ. Admission is by gold coin supporting the Society of St Vincent de Paul’s weekly meals programme held at St Joseph’s.

Digital Celebratio­n

Celebratin­g 20 years of an internet art site, a group of local artists will hold a birthday exhibition next month. The Virtual Tart site for Taranaki artists has been active for two decades, starting with nine creatives showcasing their work with it having now grown to more than 50. An exhibition, Tart Art, will be held at the Molloy Gallery in Tataraimak­a, opening Saturday, November 11 with a pot-luck dinner, music and a bonfire from 6pm. Artists, friends and artlovers are all welcome.

Final Instalment

In the fourth and final instalment of Taranaki band The Slacks’ five-part music series, a host of music groups are set to entertainm­ent. The project, Slacks Presents, is a run of New Plymouth gigs, each staging themselves and guest bands. This weekend, Auckland folk group Albi & The Wolves, local lads The Stove and young New Plymouth group Wrangle The Jangle will all perform at The Mayfair on Saturday to wrap up the series. Entry is $20 from 8pm.
