New year promises exciting new pods

- Podcasts Katy Atkin

As more and more podcasts get released, it’s hard to know which ones are new and current. There is nothing I like more than scouring podcast apps, Twitter and podcast news articles but, to save you some time, here’s what to look out for this year.

If you’re a fan of the team that brought us Serial, then you’ll be excited to learn they’re launching a new four-part series in the first quarter of the year.

The podcast will follow a group of white children in Brooklyn moving into a mostly nonwhite school and will provide wider commentary on integration in America.

A new true crime podcast is set to launch early this year from HLN and CNN, called Down the Hill: The Delphi Murders.

This pod focuses on the 2017 murders of two teenage girls who were hiking the Delphi Historic Trails in Indiana.

The case remains unsolved despite a photo and an audio recording of an individual believed to be the girls’ killer, found on one of their smartphones.

There are also a number of new scripted fiction podcasts on the horizon.

Beneath is a scripted horror podcast that looks into the mysteries surrounding the wreck of the Titanic, and Good Morning from Hell, from Warner, is a scripted comedy podcast about working on a morning television show in hell.

If you’re interested in celebrities, then

Jake Brennan of Disgraceland from IHeartMedia, will release The 27 Club about famous musicians who have died at the age of 27, including Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain and Janis Joplin.

Also partnering with iHeartMedia is Shondaland Audio headed up by Grey’s Anatomy’s Shonda Rhimes, which plans to produce up to 12 new podcasts over the next three years.
