Following in the footsteps of Tobey Maguire, Pitt snagged the starring role in Prada’s spring/summer 2012 ad campaign and was photograph­ed by David Sims in a series of images designed to echo 1950s studio portraits and see Pitt remodelled as a ‘‘Golden Age of Hollywood studio icon’’.

Certainly his snappy Boardwalk dress sense would have gone a long way to make him recognised by a fashion house such as Prada.

‘‘My suits are genuinely authentic and are made by Martin Greenfield, an 80-year-old tailor, who has dressed presidents, celebritie­s, sports stars, everyone, and is an amazing man.

‘‘It is so much fun going over to his warehouse in Brooklyn to get tailored by him, because it is seriously old-school. Hewill never pin anything, he will always use chalk – so you never make a hole in the fabric. I love that there is that level of authentici­ty invested in the show, and it’s just amazing that there can be.’’

For his weaponry, Pitt was taken to Armoury in Soho where he was let loose to choose from a range of authentic weaponry for his role.
