We’ve had a makeover TELL US WHAT YOU THINK
Stuff has made some exciting changes to your local newspaper.
You will have noticed we have a bold new masthead design to brighten your day and new te reo Mā ori titles that take inspiration from the people, stories and areas of Tā maki Makaurau.
The title we are using was carefully considered and crafted by Stuff’s Kaihautū Reo Mā ori Taurapa and Pou Tiaki Matua Carmen Parahi to represent te ao Mā ori and in respect of mana whenua, the many iwi who whakapapa to and uphold the mana of the land.
Kua whakaaweawetia ngā ingoa nei e ngā tā ngata, ngā kō rero, me ngā whenua o Tā maki Makaurau; tō na pokapū , te raki, te tonga, te rā whiti, me te uru. I ā ta whakaarohia, i ā ta tapaina e tā Puna Kaihautū Reo Mā ori
Taurapa, rā ua ko te Pou Tiaki Matua Carmen Parahi, e whakatinanahia ai te ao Mā ori, e whakautengia ai hoki te mana whenua, me ngā tini iwi, he whakapapa ō rā tou hei mana whenua.
Te Urupare is the reo Mā ori title for our West Auckland papers.
Tikanga: Te whakahoki a te taha uru.
Ko te urupare he kupu anō mō te whakahoki kō rero, he kupu angarua hoki e hā ngai ana ki te taha uru. Kua whakaaweawetia mā tou e te taha uru, e rapu ai, e hangaia ai, e tuaritia ai hoki ngā kō rero ā nō he uruparenga ki ngā tā ngata, ngā mahi, me ngā wā hi o Tā maki Makaurau.
Meaning: The western response.
Urupare means to respond, and is also a play on uru or west. We take inspiration from the west, to find, create and share stories in response to the people, events and places of Tā maki Makaurau.
The content has had a freshen up too, with a strong focus on communities in the city, more local columns and stories about how to make the most of living in Auckland. There will also be great tips on how to tap into the best that Stuff has to offer – such as how to have your community paper read out loud to you from your phone. Yes, you can do that.
We will continue to share our touchstone content – the puzzles page, our What’s On listings to find local clubs, groups, events and entertainment, as well as gardening tips and Nadia Lim’s handy recipes.
We’d love to hear your feedback, so please get in touch – see our panel on the right for all the ways to contact us, and let us know what you think.
