Celebrating the women authors

-

Amy Janes at Wardini Books in Havelock North is getting all fired up for International Women’s Day on Sunday, March 8.

The message is serious and timely — an equal world is an enabled world, raise awareness against bias, take action for equality. If having a cup of tea or a glass of wine and eating cake in the company of like-minded people celebrating the achievements of wonderful wa¯ hine is classed as action, Team Wardini is all over it.

“Team Wardini is all about ‘generation equality,’ staffed by a bunch of great human beings and spearheaded by our fearless leaders — a literary wizard and an ultramarathon running musician. Our books are carefully curated to ensure representation and empowerment of all that is good and kind. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate women’s achievement,” Amy says.

So what are they getting up to? They promise tea, wine, cake and robust discussion championing women authors, fabulous wa¯ hine characters, diversity and equality.

Everyone is welcome, wear a little or a lot of purple if you’d like to (the official IWD colour of choice) and expect laughter, controversy and solidarity.

You might make new friends, discover fresh things and leave feeling that bit more informed and invigorated.

■ International Women’s Day celebration will be held at Wardini Books Havelock North, Sunday, March 8, 4pm-5pm. Free event. All welcome.
