Golfing for dementia
Calling all budding golfers — and those who know the difference between an albatross and a birdie.
It’s time to dust off your clubs, get a team together and register for this year’s Dementia Hawke’s Bay Golf Tournament.
The Dementia Hawke’s Bay Golf Tournament is one of the key events on the organisation’s awareness and fundraising calendar and operations manager Melanie West says they are excited to be holding the event again this year.
“We have had teams participating in this event for approximately 15 years and it has become a firm fixture on many golfing and business calendars, with about 25 to 30 teams registering each year.”
Registrations for teams of four from businesses, golf enthusiasts and the public close on Wednesday, September 11. Some great prizes are up for grabs, including gift baskets, wine and dinner and experience vouchers. An auction will be held at the end of the tournament for meat packs, petrol vouchers, accommodation, with plenty of donated business vouchers.
Funds raised from this year’s event will go towards supporting staff at Dementia Hawke’s Bay.
“This will enable them to continue to provide an outstanding community service and to run our cognitive brain stimulation day programme,” Melanie says.
Although not actually swinging a club on the day, some Dementia HB board members are volunteering, with Melanie and her office manager there to help out. A shotgun start at 12.30 will get teams underway from their allocated start hole. Food and drinks are set up at different holes around the course, with the golf finishing at 4.30pm. The auction takes place at 5pm, followed by results and prizes awarded.
“Treat yourself to a round of golf at one of New Zealand’s premier golf courses and support Dementia Hawkes Bay to help people live well with dementia.”
