The man accused of murdering Zenith ‘‘Zena’’ Campbell can now be named. Paddy Jonathan Woods, 29, of Lower Hutt, appeared in the High Court in Wellington yesterday. He was charged with murdering Campbell, 21, on February 11. Campbell’s body was found in a car in the Aro Valley. A not guilty plea was indicated, through Woods’ lawyer. Justice Susan Thomas also ended suppressio­n of the cause of death, which was strangulat­ion. Woods was remanded in custody.

Major drug ring busted

Police have busted a major drug ring distributi­ng a potent new drug that has been masqueradi­ng as MDMA/ ecstasy. Five Wellington­ians have been arrested after an investigat­ion into the importatio­n and sale of littleknow­n Class C drug n-ethylpenty­lone, which began to emerge in New Zealand last year. It can look exactly the same as MDMA but is much stronger. On Thursday police arrested four men and a woman, all aged between 25 and 37. Police seized $405,000 cash, more than $200,000 worth of Bitcoin and other crypto-currencies, about 6kg of n-ethylpenty­lone with a street value of $600,000 and seven vehicles.

Fatal avalanche

A New Zealand woman has died after being caught in an avalanche in the Swiss Alps. Jodie Pralong, originally from Christchur­ch, and her Swiss husband were part of a group of four skiing near the Italian border on February 24. Pralong, 40, was the only one completely buried. The others freed her before they were all airlifted to hospital, where she later died. Her father, Des Peters, said his daughter learned to ski at Mt Hutt and was trained and certified as an instructor there. She was also a keen runner, competing in marathons around the world and had lived overseas for about 15 years.
