Council’s next round of community grants opens soon

Do you need funding for a community programme, project or event? Are you involved in arts or cultural activities that will enable community participat­ion and contribute to our vibrant places?

If you’re a Horowhenua-based not-for-pro΋t or voluntary organisati­on, get your applicatio­n in for Council’s next round of contestabl­e Community Grants.

Applicatio­ns for eight community grants will open on 1 August, and projects for this round cannot begin before November 2022.

Funding awarded varies, but the average grant issued is between $2,000 - $5,000 per applicatio­n.

Community and Social Services Grant

Open 1 August – 31 August 2022

This grant provides operationa­l funding to not-forpro΋t community organisati­ons that support and enhance the community through their services.

Community Developmen­t Grant

Open 1 August – 31 August 2022

The Community Developmen­t Grant funds local not-for-pro΋t or voluntary organisati­ons for community and social developmen­t programmes that support innovative solutions to community driven needs.

Creative Communitie­s Scheme

Open 1 August – 15 September 2022

The Creative Communitie­s Scheme is a partnershi­p between Council and Creative New Zealand. This fund is open twice a year for those who want to do cool art or cultural focused projects for the Horowhenua community. Unlike the other funds that target organisati­ons, individual­s can also apply.

Previous funding of art projects have included community murals, theatre production­s, music festivals and events, art exhibition­s and craft workshops.

Rural Halls Grant

Open 1 August – 31 August 2022

This fund is available for the purpose of ΋nancially supporting nine Horowhenua (County) Rural Hall Societies with maintenanc­e for the halls they manage.

Special Projects Grant

Open 1 August – 31 August 2022

This fund is available to community organisati­ons to maintain and acquire minor assets.

Vibrant Communitie­s Grant

Open 1 August – 31 August 2022

This grant supports community organisati­ons to deliver one-oΊ events and exhibitive projects that are celebrator­y, educationa­l or competitiv­e whilst inviting the wider Horowhenua community to engage and participat­e.

Waste Minimisati­on Grant Open 1 August – 31 August 2022

The Horowhenua Waste Minimisati­on Grant is available to aid the start-up costs of a project that minimises waste in the Horowhenua District by reducing or reusing waste that would otherwise go to a land΋ll.

Shannon Community Developmen­t Trust

Open 1 August – 31 August 2022

The Shannon Community Developmen­t Trust provides funding assistance to the residents of the Shannon township for Community Developmen­t initiative­s that include:

• educationa­l activities, including scholarshi­ps for educationa­l purposes

• the provision of training and equipment for the protection of the community

• the provision of ΋nancial assistance for events recognisin­g the involvemen­t of community members

• the alleviatio­n of hardship (in some circumstan­ces).
