Hawke's Bay Today

5 days to Christmas at the Park

-

Geoff Sewell is the headline act at Cox Partners Christmas at the Park on Saturday.

Event organiser David Trim said he was thrilled to have an international performer of Sewell’s calibre involved in the celebration on December 15. Sewell, based in London, attended high school in Havelock North.

He became an international classical crossover star in the “opera band” Amici Forever before leaving the group in 2006 to embark on a solo career.

Sewell has had three No 1 albums with Amici’s The Opera Band and Defined, and his own solo debut, Believe, which reached more than 3.5 million album sales worldwide. With Amici Forever, he was nominated for a Classical Brit Award in the UK for best album.

Other performers at the event also have a strong connection with Hawke’s Bay including soft rock band Blue Saloon and Apra award winner Danica Bryant, a senior at Napier Girls’ High School.

Other popular artists will entertain the crowd beginning at 5pm, the evening culminating with choreo- graphed fireworks. The Hawke’s Bay Regional Sports Park hosts the event this year — the first time the Perceval Rd venue has been used for a major performance event.

The event is a free, familyfriendly evening facilitated by Kaizen Trust with an army of community volunteers. Alcohol and smoking are not permitted.

For children there are free activities in the Laser Force Children’s Zone including face painting and a confidence course.

While concert-goers are encouraged to bring a picnic, a range of food vendors will also be operating.

Gates open at 2pm and performances begin at 5pm.

Santa arrives at 8pm and fireworks are at 9.30pm.
