Mainly sunny, warm weekend in store for region

A fine, warm weekend is in store throughout Hawke’s Bay before a cold snap arrives on Tuesday, MetService says.

MetService meteorologist Kyle Lee said once the clouds cleared this morning, most of the Bay would be in for a fine day with light winds.

“Saturday should be off to a good start — a sunny morning but a few showers spreading north in the afternoon with a southerly change,” Mr Lee said.

“It’s just a few showers though, not full-on rain. Then for Sunday again we’re expecting mostly cloudy with a few morning showers, then fine spells again for the afternoon.”

Hawke’s Bay will be spared until Tuesday from the southerly outbreak forecast to hit the country early next week.

“It does look like the southerly change will bring some colder temperatures,” Mr Lee said.

Niwa forecaster Chris Brandolino said the cold snap would set Hawke’s Bay up for a chilly week, at least until Thursday.

“After that it will be a pretty good rebound, so while it’ll be a short cold snap — probably the coldest of the season — we’ll find temperatures rebounding as we look into school holidays,” Mr Brandolino said. “It is looking warmer once we get through next Thursday.

“It’ll be warm for April across Hawke’s Bay.”

Above-average temperatures are in store for Hawke’s Bay this autumn.

“Over the next season it’s looking like it will be aboveaverage temperatures for Hawke’s Bay and that’s due to the elevated sea temperatures that we’re currently seeing around the country and that have been present since about November last year,” Niwa climate scientist Petra Pearce said.
