Lions member becomes first district governor

- STAFF REPORTERS

Dinsdale Lions Club’s Arvind Raman is the new Lions District Governor for Waikato and Bay of Plenty, the first from the Dinsdale club in 39 years.

Raman will be in charge of 60 clubs with about 1800 members.

He has been a Lion for 20 years and district treasurer for six years. He has also been involved with the district leadership and membership team.

His mission for the year is to ‘‘ignite the passion, and make a difference to someone’’, he said.

Raman also aims to raise money for the Paralympics.

‘‘Without the continuous assist- ance of generous supporters and the public, Paralympics New Zealand would not be able to provide inspiration to the 1.1 million New Zealanders living with a disability,’’ he said.

He also aims to raise the profile of Lions in the community and attract younger people to join the club.

Raman ran a school project with Fraser High School’s senior students at the Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park in Hamilton, which won second place in the Lions National Environmental project competition.

He takes over as district governor as Lions International celebrates 100 years of serving the community.

Dinsdale Lions have raised almost $100,000 for the community.
