How lucky we are

What do you like best about central Auckland?

We have world-class beaches, bushwalks, nightlife, restaurants, parks and everything else you could want, all within 20 minutes. How long have you lived here and where are you originally from?

I moved to Auckland when I was 8 and, apart from a few years overseas and studying in Dunedin, have lived here since. What do you like least and how could we fix it?

It would be great if Aucklanders were proud of where they were from. People from every other part of New Zealand are very parochial and I think Aucklanders being proud of Auckland would add to a sense of community spirit. Where’s the best place to have dinner?

I am a big fan Clawdy on North Wynyard Quarter. And who does the best fish and chips?

I’ll give a plug to our local chippy at One Tree Hill Takeaway on Tawa Rd. Who is the Kiwi you admire the most, and why?

As a sports nut I would name people like Wynton Rufer, Sir John Walker, Chris Lewis or Jonah Lomu but the real Kiwi heroes are people like Fred Hollows and Sir Edmund Hillary – they improved life for millions of people all around the world for of Miss

Wharf, the very simple reason that it is the right thing to do. If I was Auckland’s mayor I would . . .

Continue to invest in the provision of sports and exercise opportunities for Aucklanders. Balancing Auckland’s books is a tough gig, but getting Aucklanders fit and healthy should remain one of the top priorities. When I’ve got a few free hours I like to ...

Run/bike/walk/kick my way around Cornwall Park with my kids. The spot in central Auckland I’d recommend to tourists is . . .

Sitting in the sun at the ASB Tennis Arena in January watching the Heineken Open and ASB Classic.
